I found a better musical reference point for Homestuck XD.  

My new personal fannon is  that Dave’s Bro is a Split Enz fan, Dave is a Crowded House fan and also likes Split Enz though privately he knows they’re a bit weird, and John likes this now-defunct, thoroughly uncool band** but has a love/hate relationship with this clown video.  

AND MEANWHILE, Sollux is obsessed with this video and this video.
